A World Series of Fighting lightweight title fight between Justin Gaethje and Melvin Guillard scheduled for Saturday has been downgraded to a three-round nontitle fight after Guillard missed weight Friday.
Guillard (32-13-2) weighed in at 158.8 pounds at the official weigh-in, nearly four pounds over the contracted weight. WSOF officials confirmed to ESPN.com the title will no longer be on the line, and the bout has been changed to a 159-pound catchweight contest.
The lightweight title fight was scheduled as the WSOF 15 co-headliner at USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida.
Guillard, 31, will forfeit 50 percent of his purse for missing weight, according to officials. It is the second consecutive time he's missed weight. He weighed nearly 160 pounds on his first attempt for a fight in June against Gesias Cavalcante.
WSOF president Ray Sefo said Guillard intends to move back to the welterweight division, in which he's fought previously, in his next bout.
"Win or lose, he's going to move to 170 pounds," Sefo said. "That's what he said. He said he's 31 now and finding it too hard to cut the weight."
Gaethje (12-0), who was seeking his second title defense, made weight at 154.8 pounds.
Sefo informed ESPN.com Guillard agreed to the 50 percent fine, after his second attempt at missing weight came up short. Gaethje's camp requested the amount, to which Guillard agreed to.
"An hour and a half later he weighed virtually the same," Sefo said. "Justin said we want 50 percent of your purse, Melvin agreed to it, and that was that.
"He wasn't happy with it, but he agreed to it."
According to Sefo, the entire fine will go to Gaethje. None of it will be directed to the Florida State Boxing Commission.
A middleweight title fight between Yushin Okami and David Branch will headline WSOF 15. Each participant in that bout made weight.
