SAN DIEGO -- Padres star closer Mason Miller was added back to his team's National League Division Series roster Wednesday, one day after going on the paternity list to witness the birth of his first child.
Miller, who replaced lefty reliever Wandy Peralta, will be available in Game 4 against the Milwaukee Brewers, with his team once again trying to stave off elimination.
Said Padres manager Craig Stammen: "Everything went well so far with him and his wife."
The Padres will start Walker Buehler opposite left-hander Robert Gasser while trailing 2-1 in this best-of-five series, but Buehler will have a short leash. The question is whether Adrian Morejon will be in the bullpen to back him up.
Morejon, a dominant setup man who is also a pending free agent, felt some stiffness in his throwing shoulder while playing catch Monday and the Padres stayed away from using him the following day, even though Miller was unavailable. Stammen said Wednesday that Morejon was "feeling a little bit better postgame last night, so we're hopeful today that he'll be available."
The Padres won't make that determination until later in the afternoon, when Morejon plays catch and consults with the team's medical staff.
One person who is expected to be available, according to Stammen: Michael King, the Padres ace who took down the last two innings of Tuesday's 4-3 win. King, who would have been lined up to start a winner-take-all Game 5, threw 40 pitches in that relief outing. But Stammen emphasized that he would use him again if needed.
"We're at that point in the season where it's everybody, whatever they can give us, we're going to use," Stammen said. "There is no tomorrow if we don't win tonight."
