White Sox OF Charlie Tilson gets 1st hit, leaves game hurt in MLB debut

DETROIT -- Chicago White Sox rookie Charlie Tilson recorded a base hit in his first major league bat, but it went downhill from there for the 23-year-old outfielder in his debut against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday at Comerica Park.

Tilson had to be helped off the field after he strained his left hamstring while attempting to run down Miguel Cabrera's double to right-center field in the bottom of the fifth inning. He underwent tests after the game and was placed on the disabled list Wednesday.

He was replaced in the game by Avisail Garcia, with Adam Eaton shifting to center field.

The White Sox called up J.B. Shuck from Triple-A Charlotte to take Tilson's spot on the roster.

Tilson's call-up prior to Chicago's series against Detroit came after he was traded to the White Sox from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for reliever Zach Duke prior to Monday's trade deadline.
