First-year coach Kyle Keller gets 1st victory with SFA
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Sophomore TJ Holyfield made two free throws with 5 seconds left and had his first career double-double with a 21 points and 14 rebounds to help Stephen F. Austin beat Longwood 66-60 on Tuesday for coach Kyle Keller's first Lumberjack victory.
It was tied at 57-all with 2 minutes left. But Longwood didn't score until Isaiah Walton hit a 3-pointer with 8 seconds left to pull to 64-60. Holyfield secured it at the line.
Dallas Cameron added 12 points and Leon Gilmore III had eight points and eight rebounds for Stephen F. Austin (1-1). The Lumberjacks won their 29th straight home game, which is tied for the third longest active streak in the nation with South Dakota State.
Holyfield, who scored a career-high, had 14 points and nine rebounds in the first half as SFA held a 31-27 lead.
Walton led Longwood (0-2) with 15 points and Darrion Allen had 12 points and seven rebounds. The Lancers are still looking for their first win under first-year coach Jayson Gee.
