Siena beats Niagara 84-71 in MAAC opener
LEWISTON, N.Y. -- Rob Poole scored 21 points as Siena snapped a four-game losing streak and beat Niagara 84-71 on Friday night in the conference opener for both teams.
Siena (3-7, 1-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) broke a 26-26 first-half tie with a 17-3 run, taking a 43-29 lead with 2:43 left in the half. The Saints shot 61 percent from the field during the half, going 19-for-31.
Evan Hymes and Lavon Long added 14 points apiece and Marquis Wright had 10 assists for Siena, which led by as many as 20 in the second half.
Niagara (1-8, 0-1) missed all 13 of its 3-point attempts and dropped its seventh straight game.
Antoine Mason, who entered the contest leading the nation in scoring with 30.1 points per game, scored 18 points for the Purple Eagles.
