Varner powers UT Rio Grande Valley past Grand Canyon, 88-80

PHOENIX -- Lesley Varner II had 32 points as Texas Rio Grande Valley topped Grand Canyon 88-80 on Saturday night.

Varner II shot 5 for 6 from behind the arc and 9 for 10 from the line. He added seven rebounds.

Alessandro Lever had 18 points for the Antelopes (12-17, 7-8 Western Athletic Conference), who have now lost four consecutive games. Isiah Brown added 17 points. Jovan Blacksher Jr. had 15 points.

The Vaqueros leveled the season series against the Antelopes with the win. Grand Canyon defeated Texas Rio Grande Valley 87-79 on Jan. 30. Texas Rio Grande Valley (13-16, 8-7) finishes out the regular season against California Baptist at home next Saturday. Grand Canyon finishes out the regular season against Cal State Bakersfield at home next Saturday.
