McCloud hits 5 3s, scores 23; Green Bay beats Morehead St.

CHENEY, Wash. -- JayQuan McCloud had a career-high 23 points and Shanquan Hemphill scored 17 to help Green Bay beat Morehead State 87-70 on Saturday night in a sub-regional game of the 2K Empire Classic.

McCloud made 8 of 11 from the field, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range. Sandy Cohen III had 14 points, six rebounds and six assists and Cody Schwartz scored 13 for Green Bay (3-2).

Schwartz and McCloud hit back-to-back 3-pointers to spark a 15-4 run that made it 33-23 with 4:15 left in the first half and the Phoenix led the rest of the way. A.J. Hicks hit a 3 that trimmed Morehead State's deficit to 41-37 early in the second half but Green Bay scored 15 of the next 17 points to open a 17-point lead after McCloud made two 3-pointers in a 37-second span and the Eagles trailed by double figures the rest of the way.

Jordan Walker led Morehead State (2-3) with 25 points. Lamontray Harris added 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds -- his third double-double in the last four games.
