Rafferty has double-double in Furman's win over Catamounts
CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Matt Rafferty scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and Furman swept the season series from Western Carolina with a 64-45 victory on Thursday night.
Rafferty's double-double was his 11th of the season for the Paladins (19-5, 8-4 Southern Conference), who have won three straight games, all on the road.
Furman outlasted the Catamounts (6-19, 3-9) in double overtime, 90-88, in the teams' Dec. 1 conference opener but Thursday built a 14-3 lead midway through the first half, led 26-13 at halftime and remained in front by double figures throughout the second half.
Noah Gurley added 14 points and Alex Hunter 10 for Furman, which shot only 40 percent but that was still nine percentage points better than the Catamounts, who shot 19 percent in the first half. Furman scored 29 points off 22 turnovers.
Marcus Thomas led Western Carolina with 16 points and Kameron Gibson added 10. Carlos Dotson grabbed 14 rebounds.
