UT San Antonio holds off Louisiana Tech 78-76
RUSTON, La. -- Jhivvan Jackson scored 21 points, Giovanni De Nicolao scored the winning layup with one second left, and UT San Antonio beat Louisiana Tech 78-76 on Thursday night for the Bulldogs' third straight loss.
After 12 lead changes and six ties, Jacobi Boykins' 3 capped a 7-2 run and the Bulldogs closed to 74-73 with 26 seconds left. Byron Frohnen made two free throws for a 76-73 Roadrunners' lead, but Boykins was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all three free throws to make it 76-all with 10 seconds left. De Nicolao dribbled the length of the court on the next possession, spun around a defender and scored on an off-balance layup.
Nick Allen scored 14 points and George Willborn III added 12 for UTSA (9-7, 2-1 Conference USA), which outrebounded the Bulldogs 44-34.
Boykins made a layup and a jumper, JaColby Pemberton added a layup, and the Bulldogs led 36-35 with 1:05 left in the first half, but Allen made a layup for a 37-36 Roadrunners lead at the break.
Boykins scored 24 points and Amorie Archibald added a career-high 10 points for the Bulldogs (9-7, 0-3). DaQuan Bracey had nine points and nine assists.
