Long Beach St. uses 2nd half run to down UC Riverside 74-68
RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Edon Maxhuni scored 16 points with four 3-pointers and KJ Byers scored 14 points with 11 rebounds and Long Beach State beat UC Riverside 74-68 Saturday night.
Gabe Levin led Long Beach State (9-11, 3-1 Big West) in scoring with 18 points -- despite 13 missed shots (6 of 19) -- and grabbed eight rebounds.
Long Beach State led by double figures for most of the second half.
The 49ers led 37-29 at halftime before Maxhuni buried back-to-back 3s, Levin threw down a dunk and Byers added a layup, all in succession in less than a two-minute span and the lead was 53-38. Later, Byers and Riggins added back-to-back dunks and the lead was 65-44.
Alex Larsson led UC Riverside (5-13, 0-4) with 10 points, but the Highlanders had 12 of 14 players who saw action get into the scoring column and all 14 had at least two shot attempts.
