Wright State holds off N. Kentucky 84-81 for league lead
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Cole Gentry made a layup and followed with two free throws in the final seconds as Wright State held off Northern Kentucky 84-81 on Thursday night in a showdown between unbeaten Horizon League teams.
Northern Kentucky's Lavone Holland II drilled three straight from beyond the arc and Dantez Walton added a layup in the final 1:41 as the Norse rallied to close within three points twice. Loudon Love and Gentry answered with two straight layups and Grant Benzinger and Gentry made four free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal a sixth straight win for league-leading Wright State (13-5, 5-0).
Benzinger led the Raiders with 31 points and Love added 17 points with 10 rebounds as Wright State broke the Norse 13-game home win streak.
Holland finished with 22 points and Drew McDonald had 18 with 10 rebounds for the Norse (11-6, 4-1).
