Freshman Allen scores 26, Rider tops Monmouth 92-85
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- Freshman Jordan Allen scored 26 points with a season-high seven 3-pointers and Rider beat Monmouth 92-85 on Monday night for its fifth straight victory.
Allen's final 3-pointer came at the end of the shot clock for an 87-79 lead with 2:06 left. Dimencio Vaughn made 3 of 4 free throws in the final 1:28 to seal it.
Vaughn had 15 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks for Rider (16-7, 9-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Frederick Scott and Tyere Marshall each chipped in 11 points.
Vaughn added three 3-pointers as the Broncs went 13 of 31 from beyond the arc. Allen's previous best of five 3s came in the season opener against Hampton.
Rider ended the first half on a 12-2 run, including a pair of Allen 3-pointers, to led 46-33. The Broncs turned 15 Monmouth turnovers into 18 points.
Ray Salnave scored 19 points, Austin Tilghman had 19 points and 11 assists and Deion Hammond added 17 points for Monmouth (7-14, 3-6). The Hawks finished with 19 turnovers.
