Mahoney lead SE Missouri St. past Morehead St., 78-75

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Denzel Mahoney scored 22 points and Ledarrius Brewer scored 16 to help Southeast Missouri State beat Morehead State 78-75 on Thursday night.

Lamontray Harris and A.J. Hicks each missed potential tying 3s for Morehead State in the last four seconds. Mahoney made 1 of 2 from the foul line for a 77-72 lead before De'Von Cooper buried a 3 to reduce the deficit to two. Jonathan Dalton made 1 of 2 free throws for the final margin.

Harris' 3 to start the game marked the Eagles' only lead before halftime. Southeast Missouri State went on a 17-3 run, with three 3s from Mahoney, and went to the break with a 37-28 lead. Cooper's 3 with 12:15 left gave Morehead State a 48-46 lead after a 12-0 run.

Southeast Missouri State (8-10, 2/3 Ohio Valley Conference) got 15 points from Daniel Simmons and Mark Laros scored 11 with eight rebounds. Dalton had 10 points and six assists.

Hicks scored 21 points, and Harris and Cooper each scored 15 points, for Morehead State (4-12, 0-5), which has dropped six straight.
