Denver edges San Jose State 58-56 behind Rosga
DENVER -- Joe Rosga scored 23 points and Denver held off San Jose State 58-56 on Tuesday night for its sixth straight win in the series.
SJSU closed to 57-56 on Ryan Welage's layup with 1:19 left before Denver's Daniel Amigo made 1 of 2 free throws after getting fouled on a rebound. After the Spartans called a timeout with 2.9 seconds left, Welage tried to get his defender in the air on a pump fake and hit the front of the rim on a jumper from the wing as time expired.
Jake Pemberton scored 20 with four assists and Amigo added 13 points and five assists for the Pioneers (4-5). Denver made eight 3-pointers and 16 of 23 free throws.
Denver led 33-18 at halftime behind Rosga's 14 points with four 3s.
Welage scored 12 points, Nai Carlisle had 11 and Oumar Barry 10 for San Jose State (2-6).
