CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Cole Martinez made seven 3-pointers and scored 30 points -- both career highs -- and had three steals to help the Islanders pull away early to beat Jarvis Christian 84-61 Wednesday night for their best start since 2006-07.
Joseph Kilgore scored 15 of his 19 points in the first half and his layup capped the Islanders' opening 12-2 run. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi led by 18 until Deon Fisher's 3 capped a 7-2 run the Bulldogs used to close to within 42-35 at halftime.
Ehab Amin's layup sparked a 14-0 run early in the second half and the Islanders led by 22 after Martinez hit his seventh 3 with 58 seconds left.
Rashawn Thomas had 15 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high seven assists and the Islanders (4-0) outrebounded the Bulldogs 55-38.
Leonard Herring and Todd Brown scored 13 apiece for the NAIA-member Bulldogs (2-2).
