Sam Houston State beats Div. III Le Tourneau 104-57
HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- John Dewey III scored 18 points leading four players in double figures as Sam Houston State beat Div. III Le Tourneau 104-57 in a season opener on Saturday.
Dewey was 7 of 9 from the field for the Bearkats and had five assists. Aurimas Majauskas added 12 points and four rebounds, Cameron Delaney had 11 points and five rebounds and Phillip Jones, Jr. chipped in 10 points. Torry Butler had 11 rebounds and scored seven points.
Sam Houston State took a 34-19 lead on a Dewey 3-pointer with 7:06 left in the first half and the Bearkats finished the period on a 17-6 run to go up 51-25 at the break. They led by double digits the rest of the way.
C.J. Bird and Nate West scored 12 points apiece for the Yellow Jackets.
The Bearkats' top seven scorers returned this season in addition to senior Paul Baxter who missed all of 2015-16.
