Fresno State beats New Mexico 71-61
FRESNO, Calif. -- Deshon Taylor scored 15 points with four 3-pointers, Jaron Hopkins also scored 15, and Fresno State beat New Mexico 71-61 on Saturday.
Fresno State tied it twice in the second half before Cullen Russo's layup put the Bulldogs up 40-39 and sparked a game-changing 13-2 run for a 51-41 lead. Taylor scored two 3s in the run.
New Mexico closed to 56-53 after Jordan Hunter scored five straight and Sam Logwood added a free throw, but got no closer. Hopkins' dunk and layup put Fresno State up 64-56 with 2:27 left and the Bulldogs held on, scoring five free throws in the final 45 seconds.
Bryson Williams scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Paul Watson had 11, and the Bulldogs (16-11, 8-7 Mountain West) made 21 of 33 free throws to the Lobos' 12 of 17.
Logwood scored 14 points for New Mexico (16-11, 9-6).
