HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Egor Koulechov scored 23 points and Marcus Evans added 20 to lift Rice past James Madison 94-70 in the season opener for Rice on Sunday.

Marcus Jackson's first of his two 3-pointers in the second half extended his consecutive games streak with a 3 to 26 games. He finished with 19 points and shot 9 of 10 from the free-throw line.

Joey McLean led James Madison (0-2) with 20 points shooting 4 of 7 from the floor and was 11 of 12 at the free-throw line.

Koulechov's 3 was part of a 12-0 run that gave Rice its biggest lead at 75-59 with 9:46 left to go.

In the first half, Jackson's two free throws gave Rice a 27-26 lead it never gave up. Evans' 3 with eight seconds to play before halftime put Rice on top 46-40.
