Lafayette breaks 9 game skid behind Klinewski's 25
EASTON, Pa. -- Matt Klinewski scored 25 points, added eight rebounds, and Lafayette broke a season-long nine game losing streak with a 69-59 win over Holy Cross on Wednesday night.
The win for the Leopards also avenges a 17-point loss to Holy Cross on Jan. 11.
Kyle Stout hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 points for Lafayette (7-17, 3-10 Patriot League). The Leopards finished with one fewer field goal overall and five fewer three pointers, but held a 17-point advantage at the free throw line and won the rebounding battle by 19 (41-22).
Lafayette started the game on a 14-5 stretch and led 33-21 at halftime. The Crusaders (12-14, 6-7) opened the second on a 10-0 run to get within two, but the Leopards slowly pulled away from there. Two Stout free throws made it 50-40, and two more by Nick Linder pushed it to 69-54 with 1:16 left.
Robert Champion scored 20 for Holy Cross.
