Ross, Kempton combine to lead Lehigh past American, 70-55
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Kahron Ross scored 19 points and Tim Kempton added 15 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds as Lehigh shook off back-to-back losses to knock off American University 70-55 on Saturday afternoon.
The Mountain Hawks dropped two games in three days earlier in the week, losing at home to Boston University and to Loyola for the third time in their last four meetings.
Lehigh (13-10, 7-5 Patriot League), which led by only four, 30-26, at intermission shot a crisp 59.2 percent from the field, hitting 29 of 49 shots, including 4 of 14 from long distance. Ross hit 8 of 10 shots and dished off five assists while Kempton hit 7 of 11 while grabbing 10 caroms off the defensive glass.
Mark Gasperini had 16 points and Sa'eed Nelson added another 14 for American U (5-18, 2-10), which now has lost its last five straight and 9 of its last 10.
