Fleming scores 26 points in LIU Brooklyn's 71-66 victory
BOSTON -- Iverson Fleming was 12 for 12 at the free-throw line and finished with 26 points in helping LIU Brooklyn hold off Maine 71-66 on Monday at the Steve Wright Classic.
Jerome Frink and Jashaun Agosto added 13 points each for the Blackbirds (4-1), who were 31 of 35 at the line.
The Black Bears (1-4), who trailed from the opening minute of the game and were behind by 17 with 9:21 left, got within three, 69-66, on Dennis Ashley's 3-pointer with 11 seconds remaining. LIU missed a shot with three seconds left but Fleming got the rebound, was fouled and sank the final free throws.
Fleming scored 18 points in the first half which ended with the Blackbirds leading 37-28.
Ilker Er led the Black Bears with 13 points with Wesley Myers and Ashley adding 11 apiece.
