Omaha rides Tyus in 80-75 win over UMKC
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Marcus Tyus scored 21 points, Zach Jackson added 15 points and Tre'Shawn Thurman grabbed 10 rebounds as Omaha defeated UMKC 80-75 on Thursday night.
Tra-Deon Hollins made a layup, Daniel Norl buried a 3 and Tyus' jumper gave Omaha (6-5) a 62-55 lead with 8:19 left to play.
Later, Jackson made back-to-back 3s in a 22-second span to push the Mavericks' lead to 73-62. Omaha shot 8 for 8 from the floor from the 10:35 mark to the 5:30 mark.
Tyus scored 17 of his 21 in the second half, shooting 6 for 6 from the floor after the break. LaVell Boyd's layup with 23 seconds left brought the Kangaroos to within 77-74 but they couldn't get closer.
UMKC (7-5) led 35-32 at halftime.
Hollins finished with eight rebounds, seven points, six assists and two steals.
Boyd finished with 27 points to lead UMKC. It was the Kangaroos' first home loss of the season.
