Lafayette Leopards @ Saint Peter's Peacocks
Klinewski's 26 points lift Lafayette past St Peter's 61-57
JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Matt Klinewski matched his career high with 26 points and Lafayette scored the final 14 points to defeat St. Peter's 61-57 on Monday night.
Klinewski started the run with a jumper with 2:38 to play and followed that with a steal and layup. Eric Stafford's 3 with 17 seconds left put the Leopards (1-1) on top 59-47.
After the fourth turnover by the Peacocks -- on another Klinewski steal -- in the final 2:20, Auston Evans iced it with a pair of free throws.
Quadir Walton's layup in the closing seconds of the first half gave St. Peter's a 26-25 lead. The Peacocks pushed that to 11 several times in the second half, the last time on a Welton layup with 4:42 to play.
Welton finished with 20 points for St. Peter's (0-1), which only had seven turnovers before the late meltdown.
