Carter's double-double leads Ohio over RedHawks
ATHENS, Ohio -- Jason Carter scored 16 points and grabbed 17 rebounds and Ohio defeated Miami (Ohio) 69-55 on Friday night in a regular-season finale.
Gavin Block added 13 points, Kenny Kaminski 12, Jordan Dartis 11 and Jaaron Simmons 10 with six assists for the Bobcats (19-10, 11-7), who clinched a bye into the Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinals as the No. 2 seed. Miami is the No. 12 seed and will play at No. 5 seed Western Michigan on Monday.
Michael Weathers scored 17 points and Jake Wright 13 for the RedHawks (11-20, 4-14).
The Bobcats scored the last six points of the first half to lead 30-19 and led by 18 with five minutes left in the game after a Kaminski 3-pointer. The RedHawks got within seven with 1 1/2 minutes remaining after Weathers scored all but one point in a 13-3 run. But Ohio outscored Miami 9-2 the rest of the way with Carter scoring the game's final five points at the line.
This was the 200th game in the "Battle of the Bricks" that began in 1908.
