Cal Poly hands Northern Illinois first home loss 68-64
DEKALB, Ill. -- Victor Joseph scored 18 points and Cal Poly hung on down the stretch to hand Northern Illinois its first home loss of the season 68-64 on Wednesday night.
Ridge Shipley finished with 15 points and Kyle Toth hit four 3-pointers for 12 points for the Mustangs (3-2).
Cal Poly led 31-21 at the half but Northern Illinois (3-2) quickly chipped away, taking a 38-36 lead on a Jaylen Key layup with 12:23 left, and the game was back-and-forth the rest of the way.
Clinging to a 61-60 lead, Josh Mishler drilled a 3 for Cal Poly with 1:03 left for a 64-60 Mustangs' lead. A Marin Maric layup got the Huskies back to within one possession, but a Joseph free throw with 5 seconds left iced it.
Maric led Northern Illinois with 14 points. Aaric Armstead added 11 points and six boards for the Huskies.
