GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Demetrius Denzel-Dyson scored 16 points and Christen Cunningham and Triston Chambers each scored 14 points in leading Samford past UNC Greensboro 73-62 on Saturday.

Cunningham also distributed seven assists and Wyatt Walker collected 10 boards, seven points, and three blocks for Samford (10-4, 1-0 Southern Conference).

Francis Alonso led UNC Greensboro (10-5, 1-1) with 13 points and Jordy Kuiper had 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Spartans only led once on Marvin Smith's dunk with 16:33 left to play to make it 30-29. Denzel-Dyson hit a 3 18 seconds later, made another -- as did Alex Thompson -- and the score was 38-32. The Spartans never got closer than five.

R.J. White grabbed 11 boards and scored eight points for UNC Greensboro.

Samford has now won seven of its last eight contests. The Spartans entered the game victorious in nine of its last 11 outings. Samford took a 10-9 edge in the all-time series.
