High Point wins Big South opener over Gardner-Webb
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Miles Bowman Jr. scored 21 points and High Point earned just its second road win of the season, 71-64 over Gardner-Webb in the Big South opener for both teams on Thursday night.
Bowman had an efficient night shooting, finishing 9 of 13 overall and 3 of 4 from deep. Anthony Lindauer had 15 points and a career-high seven assists while Tarique Thompson added 13 points for High Point (7-6, 1-0). The Panthers were outshot, 50 percent to 47.3 percent, and outrebounded (34-32), but forced 15 Bulldog turnovers while committing just seven themselves.
Laquincy Rideau scored 22 points to lead Gardner-Webb (7-7, 0-1).
The Bulldogs led 31-30 at halftime, but High Point quickly rallied and took a 42-35 lead early in the second. The Panthers never trailed the rest of the night. Two Lindauer free throws made it 66-55 with 2:14 left and High Point held on from there.
