Varnado's career-high 31 lifts Troy over Louisiana-Lafayette
LAFAYETTE, La. -- Jordon Varnado had a career-high 31 points and Troy beat Louisiana-Lafayette 100-88 on Saturday night, the Trojans' first win over the Ragin' Cajuns since 2013.
The Trojans (13-12, 5-6 Sun Belt) made 12 of 14 from the foul line in the final 1:19 to seal the victory. Troy had lost the last seven meetings against Louisiana-Lafayette (14-11, 4-8) since a 71-52 win on Feb. 2, 2013.
Jeremy Hollimon came one short of his career best in adding 25 points for Troy. DeVon Walker scored 16 and Wesley Person 13.
Jay Wright had 26 points for the Cajuns, who made it interesting in the final minutes by cutting a 19-point deficit at the five-minute mark down to 89-83 on Johnathan Stove's 3-point play with 1:10 left. Frank Bartley IV added 17 points, Justin Miller scored 16 and Bryce Washington 14.
Troy had a 16-0 run to pull away in the middle of the second half.
