Saint Mary's beats Georgia 77-65, advances to NIT quarters
MORAGA, Calif. -- Emmett Naar had 15 points and 11 assists, Dane Pineau added 12 points and 11 rebounds and Saint Mary's beat Georgia 77-65 on Sunday night in the NIT second round.
Saint Mary's pulled away with 11 straight points midway through the second half and led by 19 with 5:16 left. Georgia (20-14) answered with a 9-0 run to get within 72-62 with 3:06 left but got no closer from there.
Evan Fitzner and Joe Rahon added 13 points each for the second-seeded Gaels (29-5), who set a program record for wins in a season. They will face top-seeded Valparaiso in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Third-seeded Georgia trailed 36-23 at halftime but made 9 of 13 from the field to start the second half and cut within 51-47 with 11:48 left.
Charles Mann and J.J. Frazier had 13 points each for Georgia. Yante Maten added 12 and Kenny Gaines 11.
