Westendorf nets 23, Seattle beats UT Rio Grande Valley 75-52
LAS VEGAS -- Brendan Westendorf had 23 points on Thursday night and third-seeded Seattle beat No. 6 seed Texas-Rio Grande Valley 75-52 in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference tournament.
Jadon Cohee added 19 points and William Powell scored 11 for the Redhawks (14-15), who will face No. 2 seed Cal State Bakersfield in the semifinals Friday night.
The Redhawks took the lead for good at the end of the first half with Powell hitting three free throws and Westendorf adding a triple to give Seattle a 34-30 lead at the break. Seattle had an 8-0 run early in the second to extend the lead to double digits and ended the game on a 14-3 run.
UT Rio Grande Valley (8-22) opened the game with a 16-8 lead and stayed in front most of the first half. Dan Kimasa had 14 points and nine rebounds to lead the Vaqueros.
