Gonzaga beats BYU to advance to WCC finals vs Saint Mary's
LAS VEGAS -- Kyle Wiltjer made five 3-pointers and scored 29 points, Domantas Sabonis had 18 points and 14 rebounds and No. 2 seed Gonzaga beat third-seeded BYU 88-84 on Monday night to advance to the Bulldogs 19th straight West Coast Conference tournament championship game.
Gonzaga (25-7) will play top-seeded Saint Mary's, which beat Pepperdine for the first time this season in the other semifinal, on Tuesday night for the title.
Wiltjer had a key hustle play on the offensive boards, which led to Eric McClellan's two free throws with 36.9 seconds left for an 85-79 lead. Chase Fischer answered with a 3-pointer, but after Kyle Dranginis went 1 of 2 at the stripe for Gonzaga with 17.5 seconds left, BYU missed a 3 and Josh Perkins sealed it at the line.
Freshman Nick Emery hit five 3-pointers and scored 27 points for BYU (23-10).
BYU trailed by as many as 10 in the first half, but Corbin Kaufusi's put-back dunk at the buzzer tied it at 47-all.
