Longwood tops Charleston Southern in Big South tourney 75-69
BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Darrion Allen scored 22 points and Longwood edged Charleston Southern 75-69 on Thursday in a Big South tournament first round matchup.
Longwood (10-22) advances to face top-seeded High Point (20-9) on Friday in a quarterfinal game.
Longwood trailed 44-39 at the break and went down by 10 points 4 1/2 minutes into the second half. Kanayo Obi-Rapu's 3-pointer started a 13-3 run and the Lancers tied it at 62 with 9:11 left.
After some back and forth, Charleston Southern went cold -- going scoreless for nearly six minutes -- and Longwood got late buckets from Allen, Obi-Rapu and Shaquille Johnson to scratch out the win.
Tra'Vaughn White scored 13 points, Johnson and Lotanna Nwogbo had 11 and Obi-Rapu added 10 points with seven assists. The Lancers shot 50 percent and held a 41-21 advantage on the boards.
Charleston Southern (9-21) was led by Armel Potter with a career-high 28 points for the freshman, while Aaron Wheeler added 21.
