Alcorn State tops Blue Mountain College, 68-60
LORMAN, Miss. -- DeAndre Davis had 15 points and six rebounds to lead Alcorn State to its first win of the season, a 68-60 victory over NAIA Blue Mountain College on Monday night.
Davis finished a perfect 7-for-7 shooting from the field. Patrick Onwenu had 11 points and Devonte Hampton added 10 for Alcorn State (1-7), which shot 53.3 percent from the field and got to the free throw line 29 times.
Alcorn State opened the game on a 31-13 scoring stretch, but led just 37-31 at the break. A pair of free throws by Tyrel Hunt pushed the Braves' lead back to double digits, 50-40, with 12:18 remaining. Another Hunt free throw with 2:50 left extended the Alcorn State advantage to 64-49, the highest mark of the half.
Deaundre Smith led the Toppers with 17 points. Vladimir Filipovic had 12.
