IUPUI hangs on to beat IPFW, 80-77
INDIANAPOLIS -- Darell Combs tied a career-high with six 3s and scored 31 points to lead IUPUI to an 80-77 win over IPFW in the season finale for both teams on Saturday.
IPFW had already clinched a share of the Summit League title entering the game.
IUPUI (13-18, 9-7) did not trail in the second half and held a double-digit lead at several points throughout the period. However IPFW (23-8, 12-4) chipped away down the stretch, cutting its deficit to just one (78-77) after Max Landis hit all three of his free throws after a Mason Archie II foul.
But Marcellus Barksdale answered for the Jaguars, drilling a jumper which put them up 80-77 with 13 seconds to go. Landis missed a 3 at the buzzer that would have sent the game to overtime.
Matt O'Leary had 12 points and nine assists for IUPUI.
Landis led IPFW with 23 points.
