Gaines, Morehead State hold off Tennessee Tech 69-59
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Lyonell Gaines made 7 of 8 from the field and finished with 15 points and eight rebounds to help Morehead State beat Tennessee Tech 69-59 for its fifth win in a row.
Brent Arrington added 12 points and seven assists, Anthony Elechi scored 11 points and DeJuan Marrero 10 for Morehead State.
A layup by Gaines gave the Eagles (17-11, 10-5 Ohio Valley Conference) their biggest lead, 48-34, with 14:47 to play and a layup by Elechi gave them a 10-point with 7:23 left.
But Morehead State wouldn't make another field goal for nearly six minutes as Tennessee Tech (18-10, 10-5) cut its deficit to 63-59 on a jumper by Torrance Rowe with 2:33 remaining, but Morehead State closed the game on a 6-0 run.
Rowe led Tennessee Tech with 21 points. Aleksa Jugovic and Ryan Martin scored 12 points apiece.
Morehead State converted 14 Golden Eagles' turnovers into 20 points.
