St. Francis Brooklyn upsets Fairleigh Dickinson, 85-71
NEW YORK -- Yonus Hopkinson scored 24 points and St. Francis Brooklyn knocked Fairleigh Dickinson into a first-place tie in the Northeast Conference with an 85-71 victory Saturday afternoon.
The Knights sat alone atop the conference standings after Sacred Heart knocked off co-leader Mount St. Mary's Thursday. Fairleigh Dickinson now shares first with Wagner and St. Francis (Pa).
The Terriers took a 35-31 advantage at the half and quickly pushed the lead to 41-33 in the opening minutes of the second half and steadily pulled away thanks to 76.7 percent shooting from the free throw line (23 of 30). St. Francis closed the game hitting 11 of 13 from the line in the final five minutes.
Tyreek Jewell finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for St. Francis (10-15, 6-6). Antonio Jenifer added 15 points.
Marques Townes finished with 16 points to lead the Knights (12-11, 8-4).
