Wofford edges VMI 65-61 with late FTs
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Spencer Collins scored 13 points and Wofford edged VMI 65-61 on Tuesday night.
Eric Garcia had 11 points and Ryan Sawvell added 10 points for the Terriers (5-9, 2-0 Southern). C.J. Neumann grabbed 10 rebounds with eight points as Wofford won the rebounding battle 34-25.
VMI (5-8, 0-2) was led by QJ Peterson with 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Phillip Anglade scored 13 points with five boards and Trey Chapman added 12 points.
VMI scored the last five points of the first half -- all on free throws -- and led 27-26 at the break. Wofford responded after the intermission, scoring the first 11 points of the second half -- including a 3-pointer from Garcia -- to take a 10-point lead.
Wofford stretched its lead to 14 at 61-47. VMI cut it to three on Peterson's 3-pointer with 41 seconds left, but Wofford made 3 of 4 from the line to ice it.
