CCSU beats Mount St. Mary's 76-72
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Brandon Peel had 20 points and 12 rebounds on Thursday night to help Central Connecticut State snap a three-game losing streak and beat Mount St. Mary's 76-72.
The Blue Devils (4-22, 3-12 Northeast Conference) protected a 3-point lead twice in the final six seconds by sending the Mountaineers (12-16, 9-6) to the foul line. BK Ashe and Junior Robinson split their pairs of free throws to get the Mount back each time within two. Evan Phoenix sealed it for CCSU, making both free throws with 1 second left.
Robinson scored the last field goal by either team with 1:26 left, capping an 8-1 run that pulled the Mountaineers within 70-69.
Austin Nehls added 16 points and Kevin Seymour scored 14 for the Blue Devils. Peel was 12 for 14 from the foul line and had four blocks.
Robinson led the Mount with 18 points. Ashe added 17 and Gregory Graves scored 14.
