Maryland-Eastern Shore beats Delaware State 74-65
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- Dominique Elliott scored 20 points, Thomas Rivera scored 14 while Ryan Andino and Derrico Peck each contributed 12 to lead Maryland-Eastern Shore past Delaware State 74-65 on Saturday.
With the win Maryland-Eastern Shore (9-21, 6-9 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) snapped its five-game losing streak.
Devin Morgan hit a 3-pointer and DeAndre Haywood made a layup to start the second half and Delaware State (7-22, 5-9) pulled within 41-37. Later, the Hornets' Joseph Lewis hit a 3 with 10:54 left to cut it to 51-48.
But Elliott responded by making 3 of 4 free throws, followed by consecutive dunks and Rivera hit a 3 and a free throw that pushed the Hawks' lead to 62-52 and the Hornets couldn't mount a challenge.
The Hawks shot 56 percent (23 for 41) from the field and 7 for 16 (43.8 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc.
Morgan led the Hornets with 20 points.
