Texas College Steers @ North Texas Mean Green
Harris, Combs lead North Texas past Texas College, 110-61
DENTON, Texas -- DeAndre Harris and Jeremy Combs scored 18 points apiece to help North Texas blow past NAIA Texas College 110-61 Monday night.
Combs made 8 of 12 field goals and Harris hit 5 of 6, including all four of his 3-point shots. Eric Katenda added 15 points, Deckie Johnson scored 11 and Carrington Ward 10 for North Texas (2-0).
The Mean Green used a 12-3 run to open up a 26-14 lead with 9:56 left in the first half and led by double figures the rest of the way. They led by as many as 52 late in the game.
North Texas, which shot 59 percent from the field, made 18 more shots (40) than the Steers despite attempting just one more (68) and converted 20 Texas College turnovers into 24 points.
UNT, which hadn't scored 100 or more points in coach Tony Benford's three-year tenure coming into the season, scored 112 in its season-opening win over Jarvis Christian.
Dezmond Biggurs led Texas College with 17 points.
