Toledo outpaces NAIA West Virginia Tech 96-65 in opener
TOLEDO, Ohio -- Jaelan Sanford opened the season with 22 points on crisp shooting as Toledo defeated West Virginia Tech 96-65 on Saturday,
The Rockets made 31 of 61 shots as a team, with Sanford hitting 8 of 10 from the floor, including 6 of 8 3-pointers. Three others reached double figures for Toledo -- Stuckey Mosley with 17 and Jonathan Williams and Nathan Boothe 15 apiece. Mosley and Boothe each grabbed eight rebounds.
Paul Stone led the NAIA's WV Tech with 20 points and Ryan Atkins added 17 with 11 rebounds. The Golden Bears missed 41 of 64 shots, 35.9 percent, with 15 turnovers.
Toledo owned the boards, claiming a 46-32 edge in rebounds. The Rockets pulled down 36 defensive rebounds, more than WV Tech's total.
Toledo led the game from start to finish, up 46-32 at the half and building leads of as many as 36 points.
