Monmouth stuns Rider late in 79-78 win
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- Justin Robinson scored 21 points, and his 3-pointer with 3.4 seconds to play capped a wild finish as Monmouth's furious comeback shocked Rider in a 79-78 win Friday night.
The 5-foot-8 Robinson created space off his dribble, launched the 3 over the outstretched arm of 6-foot-4 Teddy Okereafor and drained it.
Monmouth (21-5, 13-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) shot 4 for 25 from the field during the first 16 minutes of the second half before going 7 for 7 in the final 3:42.
Okereafor's layup with 4:02 left gave Rider (6-9, 10-16) a 76-62 lead with 4:02 to play. But Micah Seaborn capped a 14-0 run with a high-arching step-back 3 to tie it at 76 with a minute left. Khalil Thomas gave Rider its last lead on a jumper with 22 seconds left before Robinson's game winner.
Thomas led Rider with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
