WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- Justin Robinson scored 28 points and Monmouth defeated Marist 83-72 on Sunday.

Robinson, who averages 20.2 points, was 8 of 18 from the field, 6 of 10 from beyond the arc and 6 of 6 from the line. Micah Seaborn scored 16 points while Deon Jones added 13 points and seven rebounds. Monmouth (15-5, 7-2 Metro Atlantic) shot nearly 46 percent, including 10 of 22 on 3-point attempts.

Marist (4-14, 1-8) was led by Khallid Hart and Brian Parker with 24 points apiece. Hart made 12 of 13 free throw attempts with six rebounds. Parker grabbed 12 boards.

Monmouth opened a 17-point lead in the first half on a 19-5 run, including three consecutive 3-pointers by Robinson. He added two more moments later and the Hawks led 42-29 at the break.

The Red Foxes trimmed the deficit to nine with 1:36, but Monmouth made 10 straight free throws in that period to maintain advantage.
