Iona runs past Quinnipiac in second half, 78-59
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- A.J. English scored 16 points and added six assists and Iona pulled away in the second half to beat Quinnipiac 78-59 on Monday night.
Isaiah Williams and Ibn Muhammad each finished with 15 points, with Williams adding 10 rebounds, for the Gaels (15-10, 12-4 MAAC). Iona has now won five of six, rebounding from a three-point loss to Siena on Saturday.
Chaise Daniels led the Bobcats (8-17, 5-11) with 12 points. James Ford Jr. and Abdulai Bundu each had 10.
Giovanni McLean hit a 3 which put Quinnipiac up 44-39 early in the second half. But Muhammad made a layup and Deyshonee Much added a 3-pointer on consecutive possessions which sparked a 13-0 Gaels run and put them in front 52-44 with 13:52 left.
Iona continued to pull away, piecing together a 19-5 stretch shortly after to extend its advantage to 20 points (71-51) with 7:34 remaining.
