Toney, Eastern Michigan pull away for 81-69 win over Buffalo
YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Ty Toney scored 17 with a career-high five steals, and freshman James Thompson IV had his eighth double-double to help Eastern Michigan beat Buffalo 81-69 Tuesday night.
Thompson finished with 13 points, 12 rebounds, two steals and three blocked shots. He made 9 of 12 free throws as the Eagles hit 34 -- their most since making 41 against Central Michigan on Jan. 9, 2005 -- of their 47 foul shots to overcome shooting just 13.3 percent (2 of 15) from 3-point range.
Raven Lee and Brandon Nazione scored 14 apiece and Willie Mangum IV added 11 points for Eastern Michigan (10-6, 2-1 Mid-American Conference).
Toney scored four and Mangum added six during a 12-3 run that put the Eagles up 62-49 with 7:42 left and Buffalo trailed by at least eight the rest of the way.
Blake Hamilton had 16 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for the Bulls (8-8, 1-2).
