Akron beats Buffalo 75-71 in Mid-American opener
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Isaiah Johnson scored five of his 14 points in the final 3:08 and Akron beat Buffalo 75-71 on Tuesday night in a Mid-American opener for both teams.
Johnson made an up-and-under layup to give Akron a 68-67 lead with 2:06 left. After a Buffalo free throw, Johnson was left open in the paint and made an easy basket for a 70-68 lead.
Akron took a four-point lead with 34 seconds left on two free throws by Antino Jackson, but Willie Conner hit an open 3-pointer after a Buffalo offensive rebound to cut its deficit to 72-71.
Noah Robotham hit two free throws for a three-point lead, then Conner missed a 3 and Robotham sealed it at the line.
Jackson had 16 points and seven assists for Akron (12-2).
Conner led Buffalo (7-7) with 16 points.
Buffalo had a 26-22 lead before Jackson and Reggie McAdams combined to score Akron's final 13 points of the first half to tie it at 35.
