Houston Baptist holds off Lamar 92-79
BEAUMONT, Texas -- Josh Ibarra had 18 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks, Anthony Odunsi scored 19 and Houston Baptist won its eighth straight on Saturday, beating Lamar 92-79.
Colter Lasher added 15 points and eight rebounds to help the Huskies (12-7, 7-0 Southland) stay atop the conference standings. Reveal Chukwujekwu scored 12 and Asa Cantwell 11.
Houston Baptist never trailed after the midpoint of the first half and Lasher made two 3-pointers a minute apart to stretch the HBU lead to 74-61 with 6:35 left.
Lamar (10-9, 2-5) closed within 76-71 with 3:51 left, but the Cardinals missed three straight attempts from close range while Houston Baptist stretched its lead to 83-72.
Marcus Owens had 18 points, Lincoln Davis scored 16 and Nick Garth 14. Both Owens and Garth went 4 for 5 from 3-point range and the Cardinals were 11 for 20.
