Portland State beats Texas-Rio Grande Valley 79-61
EDINBURG, Texas -- Isaiah Pineiro had 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead Portland State to a 79-61 victory over Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Sunday.
Pineiro was 11 of 14 from the field. Cameron Forte had 16 points with 10 rebounds and Collin Spickerman chipped in 13 points for Portland State (2-1)
Shaquille Hines scored 18 points on 7-of-17 shooting, and Dan Kimasa added 10 points with 11 rebounds to lead Texas-Rio Grande Valley (1-3).
The Vikings had a 10-point lead midway through the first half and stretched it to a 40-22 halftime lead. Pineiro put up 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field with a free throw in the half.
The Vaqueros opened the second half with a 9-2 spurt to pull to 42-31. Portland State answered with a 21-13 run and lead 62-44 with ten minutes left. Forte scored eight points and Pineiro added five points during the span.
