Raymond with 3 at buzzer, Middle Tennessee edges FIU 61-58
MIAMI -- Jaqawn Raymond sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the win as Middle Tennessee edged Florida International 61-58 in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday.
Raymond's winning shot came with the score tied 58-58 after the Blue Raiders (21-9, 13-5 Conference USA) had spent the entire second half trying to shake the Panthers (13-18, 7-11) who never led but tied the score three times in the final ten minutes. Middle Tennessee continues to the conference tournament on March 9.
Reggie Upshaw led the Blue Raiders with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Perrin Buford added 11 points and Raymond had 10.
The Blue Raiders had a 35-31 advantage at the break and took it to 47-40 -- their biggest second-half lead -- with 13:23 to play.
Elmo Stephen scored 14 points for the Panthers who play in the C-USA tournament first round on March 8.
