New Hampshire downs UMass-Lowell 80-69
DURHAM, N.H. -- Jacoby Armstrong and Tanner Leissner scored 16 points apiece as New Hampshire downed Massachusetts-Lowell 80-69 on Wednesday night.
Leissner also grabbed 13 rebounds. Jaleen Smith added 13 points and four rebounds, Ronnel Jordan had 11 points and Iba Camara chipped in 10 for the Wildcats (16-10, 9-4 America East), who had a 36-25 rebounding edge.
New Hampshire opened the game on a 25-5 run and had a 43-32 lead at the break.
In the second half, Armstrong and Leissner combined for eight consecutive points inside of two minutes to help the Wildcats stretch their advantage to 67-53 with 6:41 to play. Jahad Thomas scored seven unanswered points for UMass-Lowell in the final 2:14 but it was not enough to close the gap.
Thomas finished with 20 points for the River Hawks (11-16, 7-7).
